what we’re not going to do is judge women for looking up to Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, two unproblematic queens, because they’re deemed as “cliche” or “mainstream” ; meanwhile, men are over here idolizing other mediocre men who have physically and sexually abused women and think it’s acceptable because “we should separate art from the artist”

It should also be stated that Marilyn and Audrey are inspirational because they overcame so much and were genuinely kind people. Marilyn dealt with sexual abuse, mental illness, miscarriages, and scrutiny. Audrey aided the Dutch resistance, overcame hunger during ww2 , and was a notable unicef ambassador. To diminish these women to just beautiful actresses is sickening. These two women deserve the legacy they have. Even if they hadn’t accomplished all that they did we as a society have to stop ridiculing women for what “basic” things they enjoy.
